Dr Peter Sumich
 Dr Peter Sumich has a special interest in cataract surgery, LASIK eye surgery and corneal transplant surgery. He is extensively trained. He graduated with Honours from NSW University in 1990. He worked as an Emergency Medicine Doctor at Royal North Shore Hospital and was awarded the Australian Gold Medal in the Emergency Medicine Primary Exam. After 4 years of Emergency Medicine he transferred to eye surgery and later graduated from Sydney Eye Hospital. He was honoured to be appointed as the Professorial Senior Registrar in his final year at Sydney Eye Hospital and worked with the Sydney University Department of Ophthalmology which deals with complex eye disease.
He was awarded the Sir Norman Rose travelling scholarship and furthered his surgical experience by living in England where he underwent a Corneal and Cataract Surgery Fellowship at the renowned Bristol Eye Hospital. In recognition of his high level of training to an international standard, the Royal British College of Ophthalmology granted him dual registration as a specialist eye surgeon in both Britain and Australia.
Dr Sumich now holds public hospital postings as an Associate Eye Surgeon at Sydney Eye Hospital and is a Consultant Eye Surgeon at Westmead Hospital where he instructs in cataract surgery. He is a member of The Australian and also the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and enjoys participation in daily internet discussions with expert colleagues from many countries. Dr Sumich serves on the State Government Ophthalmic Services Advisory Committee and is a 15 year member of the Australian Medical Association. He is a Clinical Lecturer with the Sydney University Department of Ophthalmology at the Save Sight Institute.
Dr Sumich has published many scientific papers and is an article reviewer for The British Journal of Ophthalmology Online. He has previously worked on the Blue Mountains Eye Study Team and was involved in research on a new drug therapy for Corneal Transplant rejection which involved collaboration with Sydney, Bristol and Nottingham University.
Dr Sumich is well known as a regular expert guest with radio 2GB on Murray Wilton’s ‘Good Life’ programme and has greatly enjoyed this experience. He regularly presents lectures and seminars at medical conferences around Australia and overseas.
Dr Sumich continues to update his knowledge and skills and is committed to providing his patients with the very best eye care available. He is married to Carmel and has a beautiful son named Jay.
Dr George Thomson
 George Thomson is a Sydney University medical graduate. He completed a year’s residency at Wollongong hospital and the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He then taught anatomy at Adelaide University whilst preparing for his ophthalmology entrance exams.
He commenced his Ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital where he was a registrar and then became the Clinical Superintendant. He continued his training as the research fellow of Professor Richard Troutman (a pioneer of corneal and refractive surgery) in New York. During this time he worked with Dr Charles Kellman who was then developing phacoemulsification cataract surgery.
Since returning to Australia he has been in private practice in Parramatta and Westmead. His principal interest is in cataract surgery, corneal surgery and LASIK eye surgery.
Dr Thomson has been an assistant editor of the Australian Journal of Ophthalmology, Chairman of the Cataract and Day Surgery Committee of the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmology, a board member of the Australian Ophthalmic Research Institute of Australia and a consultant to the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
Dr Thomson has presented many papers at meetings both in Australia and overseas. He has coordinated workshops to teach intraocular lens implantation, extra capsular cataract extraction, phacoemulsification techniques and refractive techniques. He has participated in the trials of several intraocular lenses and several ophthalmic drugs.
Dr Thomson is currently a member of the Royal Australasian College of Ophthalmology, a foundation member of the Australian Cataract and Refractive Society, a foundation member of the ASIO Pacific Cataract and Refractive Society and has been a member of the American Cataract and Refractive Society since 1979. He has recently been invited to join the International Intraocular Implant Club.
Dr Ridia Lim
Dr Ridia Lim is a cataract and glaucoma specialist. She graduated from the University of NSW in 1992 and completed ophthalmology training in Sydney Eye Hospital to attain the fellowship to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) in 2001. Dr Lim furthered her training as a Cataract Surgery Specialist at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2001. In 2002 and 2003, Dr Lim completed glaucoma fellowship training in Oxford Eye Hospital, Oxford, United Kingdom.
Dr Lim has worked on major research studies, including the Blue Mountains Eye Study, from which she gained a Masters degree in Public Health from Sydney University in 1998, completing a treatise on risk factors for cataract. She has participated in international multicentre glaucoma research studies and herself, designed glaucoma studies, some published in peer-reviewed journals and some currently in progress.
Dr Lim has published journal articles, has presented internationally and is the published author of several book chapters in glaucoma and glaucoma surgery, in international collaborations. She has acted as a reviewer for both journal and book chapters in the subspecialty of glaucoma.
Dr Lim holds a public hospital appointment at Prince of Wales Hospital; clinical teaching, surgical teaching, mentoring ophthalmology registrars and lecturing optometry students are a part of this role. She is a past assistant Director of Training for Sydney Eye Hospital Training Programme, elected by the NSW Qualification and Education Committee. She is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Glaucoma Club and the South East Asian Glaucoma Interest Group.
Dr Lim was born in Busan, South Korea, immigrating to Australia in 1976. She speaks conversational Korean. She is married to Dr Sean Griffin, a talented gastroenterologist and they have a lovely daughter, Erin.
Gabriella Kiraly
 Gabriella is our practice manager and has a strong clinical background in LASIK eye surgery. She graduated from the University of Sydney and then worked in laser vision correction for over 6 years where she managed a LASIK eye surgery clinic.
She has now joined Hunter Street Eye Specialists and is the lynch pin for this leading multi-disciplinary eye care practice. Gabriella is responsible for systems management and quality assurance, which facilitates the excellent standard of patient care and ensures a focus on customer service.
Gabriella also finds time to manage her own internet-based recruiting agency for allied health care personnel. “Eyedeal Careers” has been operating successfully for over 4 years now.

Naomi Roediger
Naomi is our LASIK surgery co-ordinator and implant biometrist. She grew up in The Hills Shire and was trained as an orthoptist at Sydney University graduating in 2002 with first class honours. She spent several years in Townsville before returning to Sydney to work with The Hunter Street Eye Specialists.
Naomi is responsible for the assessment of all patients prior to seeing the specialist. She is particularly involved in the care and assessment of patients who are undergoing Laser refractive surgery and cataract surgery. She is currently involved with the implementation of new technologies to enhance refractive outcomes of cataract and lens extraction patients and also coordinates the clinical research projects which the unit undertakes.
Naomi has a passion for all things sporting (especially soccer) and plays for the local women's soccer team.
